UTAG’s NEC meets over strike

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) will at this time meet to take a choice on its ongoing strike.

That is in opposition to the background of the High Court injunction positioned on the commercial motion of the association.

The President of UTAG, Prof. Charles Marfo, instructed the Daily Graphic {that a} resolution on the strike could be taken based mostly on the advise on association’s legal professionals.

“The NEC will meet Monday, after which with our legal professionals advising us we’d know what to do,” he stated, including that at this time’s assembly was anticipated to happen at about 2 p.m.

Injunction

Last Friday, the National Labour Commission secured an interlocutory injunction from the Accra High Court to compel UTAG to end the industrial action.

The injunction is to last for 10 days.

“It’s hereby ordered that the respondent by itself, its executives, officers, members, agents, servants, and so forth. are restrained from persevering with  the present industrial action and are to adjust to the directive of the NLC dated August 2, 2021,” the court stated.

The NLC on August 2, 2021, invited members of the UTAG and the Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) to look earlier than it on Thursday, August 5, 2021 for the hearing of their issues in dispute with government.

With its intervention, the commission directed the two associations to call off their separate indefinite strikes which began last Monday.

UTAG, earlier than the Thursday meeting with the NLC met government on the problem. The meeting, nevertheless, resulted in a stalemate as there was no resolution.
